The "Learn something New or Cool" thread

As an old school Marine, I know what it takes physically to WALK 30 miles in a day. That is absolutely INSANE.
I got the latest update a few minutes ago, the kid has 200 miles in the books. He told his dad he was hurting today and it took him a few miles to get right mentally, but he’s in good spirits overall.

Halfway there if he holds up physically. It sounds like he’s learning to tame the mental stuff.

I’ve already hijacked the thread, but I promise this will be my last update until the end of the road:

Max has logged 305 miles in 6 days, but he’s feeling it quite a bit. He’s hurting when he goes to bed, and understandably feels worse when he wakes up everyday.

He got 2 days to run 95 miles to meet his distance goal. He’ll be back at it tomorrow at 6am. He has raised about $35k of his $50k goal for charity (originally $25k, but people were generous).

Having a strong body is useless without a stronger mind. Incredibly impressive performance. Both mentally and physically.
Reminds me of the Davy Crockett story when he was in upper Alabama in 1816. His horse got away during the night and he went after it. He claims he walked over 50 miles that day with a heavy musket, before giving up and heading back the way he came. He gets sick about halfway back, lies down but then gets delirious. He is found by natives who tell him they will bury him after he dies. He manages to ask if a house is nearby. He is told a house is one and half mile away. He is assisted to this house. Mrs. Jones takes him in assuming he will die soon. She gives him a bottle of Bateman's tonic (largely alcohol and opium) and he survives but needs weeks to recover his strength and return home.

So is this more of a lesson of the lengths someone will go to to get out of Alabama?

asking for a friend @della

Sounds like he was fine til he left the beautiful state of Alabama and crossed into that God forsaken shithole that is Tennessee.
