my 2016 Ford F150 xlt how has 143,000 miles on it.. 3.6L eco boost. Im thinking it may be time to trade.. This has been a good truck, no problems other than routine maintenance.. I bought it used and its been paid off for a while now and I figure its still worth around 15k..
The price of new trucks is unreal crazy.. most full size mid grade tucks are around 65k now.. its very hard to wrap my head around that..
heres a few things just a little bit of googling has revealed to me,, the Tundra changed their once unbeatably reliable engine in 2022 and is now not worth consideration, but if your looking at used, a 2021 or earlier Tundra is still very much a great truck. for reliability, and longevity, the Ford F150 and Dodge Ram stay at the top, however, the dodge Ram did away with the Hemi engine in 2025 and what they replaced it with has some issues, not to mention the 10 speed transmissions across the board are having problems, also, with turbos, the lifters are acting up a bit..
The FORD F150 seems to still be the best option for a trouble free truck that will last 10 or more years.. and Im reading that the 2.7 eco boost is a good choice for light towing (small boat, utility trailer) and gas mileage..
would love to hear some of yalls thoughts,, I might try to find an XLT in the 22 or 23 model to get that price tag down a bit... ???

Just be glad you don't drive a diesel. Problems up the Ying yang with trannys and turbos, not to mention the def systems that cause all sorts of their own issues. I've been looking for a different truck for a while now, just so damn expensive, new is to much and I don't want to spend 60 + on a 40000 mile used.
I see 150000 plus mile trucks in the 40s still. It's ridiculous. But I do believe that the prices on the used market are starting to weaken a bit. I think Ford still probably makes the best truck, but to be honest they are all junk anymore. Quality control and cheap undermade parts and components seem to be everyone's downfall.

Yeah, he got it used about 1970 or 71, from a state trooper, as I recall. New, it was a six cylinder, but the trooper swapped a 289 into it, keeping the six cylinder rear end. That chassis has over 400,000 miles on it, as I recall, between the used miles when he bought it, and the later 351. He parked it when he got a 1996 F-150, which he traded for the 2007.

Not a truck, but a lady at work said her son works at the Toyota plant in Georgetown,KY. Traded in his 2025 Camry he bought with his employee discount for a pre-covid Lexus for even money. She said he said that all makes during and after Covid are junk. That says a lot coming from a guy that builds Toyotas.

Have you done any research on the Nissan Titan? Also, GMC Sierra is not the same as Chevy Silverado, even though most people think they are because it's the same company. Structural differences in the chassis. Look into those.
the Titan was discontinued in 25. my son had one a few years ago and it was pretty good until he alcoholled it.. nissan list low volume sales and a shift to electric vehicles as reasons for stopping production.

motor trends top 5 full size trucks in 25 are in order, the Ram, F150, Sierra, Silverado, Tundra

I have a 08 Dodge Ram I bought brand new for 39k. It’s the BigHorn edition so it had most decent options but not alol the luxury crap. It’s Cummin 6.9 with a 5 speed manual transmission……..it’s been trouble free with the exception of a clutch replacement (my son in laws fault….that’s what I get for loaning it out). I’ve been looking to replace it, but the same truck now is 72k. I can’t bring myself to pay almost double and I have continued to resist the urge. Now she is getting aged and needs a few repairs so I’m going to keep her running until she dies a horrible earth. To pay that kind of money for a depreciating assets is just crazy to me. Don’t give in to the”man”…..keep your reliable truck and spend some money on her. Mine has 290k miles on her

If you decide to go new look at the GMC Canyon At4. A friend who has been a long time Tacoma fan just bought one. Very nice ride. The 2.7 is the same they put in the big trucks now and in the Canyon it has class leading towing capacity.

Just took a fairly long road trip in it and it is a great ride.

People that drive trucks are killing the planet with climate change.

With that said, still enjoy my 2012 F150 eco-boost. Stay out of the turbos and it gets good gas mileage. Spool the turbos and forget about it.
Multiply every truck in the US by 100 and it's a drop in China's ocean of carbon footprint. Fuck dem.

Drive an '07 Tacoma. 151,000 miles on it. Those who attended ODD's Wedding saw it. Every time I have it serviced, Toyota bugs me about selling it.
"How much would you be willing to take for it?"
$50,000

Tolt them ,that Tacoma and $25,000 cash for a new one. They almost wet their panties.
I intend to get another 200k miles on it.
