ND left out of Playoffs, Bama gets in

It isn't worth spit. Because as we found out last week. Where you are ranked on any given day is completely at the mercy of a group of people behind locked doors. ND could be ranked in the top 5 at the beginning of CCG week. And the ranked 14th after sitting idle. Look at Georgia the other year. They lost a competitive CCG and still lost what 4 or 5 spots.

In my eyes. The playoff rankings should be defined by metrics and points. I.e. you get X points for defeating an end of year P4 team with an over .500 record. You get points for winning a CCG. You get points high ranked overall offense or defense without including any metric from a win over a FCS or D2 school, etc.

Im not a fan of MoV. Only because take the Pitt game. ND allowed a garbage TD vs their 2s and 3s in literally the last 5 seconds of the game. Allowing the MoV to be smaller than Miami who played Pitt later in the season and had their starters in throwing bombs down the field in the closing minutes of the 4th quarter to make the win look better than NDs. Whereas if you and look at the full box score you can see ND without a doubt beat Pitt better than Miami did. And I am sure there are plenty of other examples of that.
I have never liked using MOV or ATS for a qualifying metric. MOV is too easily manipulated and leads to unsportsmanlike behaviors/habits in mismatches. You are right about a game's score not accurately representing the play. The best recent example involving Auburn that's on the top of my head is the Clemson game from perhaps 2017. We were utterly dominated to the point that IIRC before halftime Dabo decided, and rightfully so I might add, that the only way we would score is if the turned the ball over. The final had it like a one score game, but we were thoroughly dominated, shrimp slapped and skull drugged for four quarters.

Bowl alliance.
BCS. Omg so bad.
Conferences expanding...
Years ago, people and Teams claimed was worthy and got left out.
NIL... players deserve to be paid. I guess a full scholarship was not enuf.

Then talk about and install a 4 Team playoff. That would fix everything. And then, Teams 5-6-7-8 being left out. Omg so unfair. We demand a 12 Team playoff. That will fix everything.
Then talk about and install a 12 Team playoff. And Teams 13-14-15-16 being left out.

Hell, let's go to a 24 team playoff. Might as well. I am almost done with College Football. Ending Conference Championship Game will be the end for me.

Only 4 Teams are Championship Quality.

The rest are a bunch of crybabies and should go to their corners, and deal with it. Including Bama.

Depending on opt outs. ND wins by 15. And that is if the expected people going to draft sit out.

BYU defense wants none of that smoke.
BYU defense is pretty stout -
seen em from the 14th row -
score was 13-7 at the half -
Tech got 4 TOs agst their offense in the 2nd half,
which led to the bloated score -

i'll suggest a ND-BYU neutral-site matchup
would likely be a one score game,
either way -

It’s back on due to the bad PR, which is only slightly better PR. But it’s the right thing to do. Whoever made the decision to cancel probably won’t be making decisions any more.

So behind the scenes. This was someone with 'just enough authority' to cancel it

However that still required the okay of people above that one with the authority to tell the first one to kick rocks.

And to he fair. It wasnt totally internal. There was an outside group that was part of this that will go unnamed

And since it seems to be, getting out.

ND didnt do this. The 'unnamed party' was his own publisher. His PR guy cancelled it due to safety for him. And then told his agent. And then told ND

Great post. Especially after the number of scholarships were equalized, there should be more than the original four teams.

Like ND this year, some teams need a game or two for everything to 'gel' and then they start a winning streak. In general, I think wins should be weighted higher later in the season.
The greater parity has lead to a need for an expanded playoff. I always preferred at least six teams during the BCS years. Not always justified, but usually it was. Now I agree with twelve teams, but the ND debacle suggests more options are needed. HOWEVER, no more than twelve playoff selections, no more. Just how do you get there. I have two suggestions (or a hybrid of the two).
First suggestion:
I suggest top ten get selected as currently done. Slot 11 and 12 goes to ranked teams #11 thru 14 BY LOTTERY PICK.
If no G5 is ranked in top 14, then highest top 25 G5 gets slot 12. If no G5 is ranked, then the remaining three teams in the top 14 get a lottery pick for slot 12.

Second suggestion:
Use a weighted point system that teams acquire throughout the season. Teams 11 thru 14 are selected by points for slot 11. A G5 is selected for slot 12 per previous suggestion, however, if none qualify, then use points to select from remaining three. Tiebreakers as needed.

Well, these are a possible solution. Other than dropping the byes, I don't think the number of playoff weekends played should increase.
