***College Wrestling Thread***

No where super close to me. It's 2.5hr to either Purdue or Michigan, 2.25 hrs to Columbus, and 3.25 hrs to Bloomington. 2 hrs & 20 minutes to South Bend & the Irish do not have wrestling. Which is dumb as "Da Region" in Indiana to their west is home of numerous hammers.
This got me to remembering, I have been in the Wabash colleges wrestling room, probably 15 or 18 years ago now. My brother coached football there at the time so I went out and watched a game. Got a guided tour of the room with the head coach, I can't recall his name now, but seemed a real down to earth guy that cared about his wrestlers, and I got to watch some workouts. The head athletic director stood with me and my dad most of the game, he was interesting to talk to. He kept asking me about my rodeoing days and couldn't believe I was still alive and able to walk. He had a good sense of humor.

Yeah that's 3hrs from me across the state. Think 1 of our guys went & tried to play football & wrestle. Believe he did wrestle for them.

I'm surprised to say the least. Hoping Max is just holding back but fear everyone has figured him out with all these SV wins. Thanks! Iowa will be back tournament time though.
Me too. Rumors of sickness going through the room but no excuse. Wrestled horrible.

Almost seems like the wrestlers have tuned the Brands out. Is it time for change in your opinion?
That's a complicated question. I would prefer Tom to stay but bring in another coach on staff to teach a different, more modern style on their feet. Seems to be a lot of head snaps and pushing but not a lot of set ups. A Nolf, Dake, or Askren type would add a style change that I believe would be good. Nolf would probably intrest me the most. Similarities in style from the standpoint of sound technique and solid positioning, but the ability to improvise and go to a different set up and shot when your main one is blocked.

I think Duke is still the one to beat, Taylor played keep away from what I've read. I haven't seen Shapiro wrestle yet this year, Robideau will push them.

I got to watch Shapiro/Larkin. Larkin still looks long at 157. Studs. Its gonna come down to who catches fire. Lean Duke still.

What is the rest of the fan base feeling?

Quite a bit of unrest, some want a total change, others not so much. A lot of unhappy people though. Iowa wrestling fans are spoiled, we expect to be first and that hasn't happened in a while.

Iowas fan base is about as down to earth as can be, that is why I asked.

Shockingly, OSU doesn't have a die hard base. That is changing though. I see we are averaging around 8k for home duals.

Smith did it right by finding his successor. His is at all the events and a big part of the program.

Well a mix. Lost to Rutgers but beat Maryland. One of our local studs from RTC is at Rutgers but is a back up. Another local stud from my IN county got teched in his match for Purdue against Illinois.
IN HS state series already heading to round 3 of 4. 1st round the county teams went 1-2-3. Yesterday went 1-2-4 so that's good. However this coming weekend is the real deal to see how they each fair & who gets people to state. Northern County school has 11 going to Rd 3, alma mater & Southern County school have 8 each. Hopefully all 3 get some down & places as well.

Nice! I'd say our Northern County school probably was in that mix in mid to late 80s & maybe early to mid 90s. The area sure has come back to earth since the 2000s & 2010s it really dropped off. Last champ has been 2009. A few runner ups since then but not many.
