What's the FQ opinion on this?

Do we either....

A. Say good for them, it's a once in a life time thing to chase the NFL money and to protect their dreams.

Or

B. Say football is a team sport and you're walking out selfishly.

I honestly say they lose some of their "extra money" they've been crying to get for 20 years about. Lesson is: You don't show up to work, you get no check.

I think it has as much to do with the culture of the program they're in as much as anything else. Otherwise, it can be a calculated risk. A high profile bowl game can showcase you and raise your draft stock. Some NFL teams could look at sitting out as a negative as in: is this guy really a competitor? Are you already nursing an injury that without further aggravation you'll be fine at the combine? So much goes into that decision I'll have to go with A, because every player is in a different situation...

I like @FifthQuarter never had 7 figures flashed before my eyes! Personally I'd like to think I have the moral fortitude to stick with what I said above but I honestly don't know!
Maybe the NCAA nazi's and the member universities could reach some kind of compromise. If a player was projected first or second round the school could assist them with an insurance policy to offset the risk of injury they might sustain. At least that way if they DID get a severe injury at least they wouldn't be empty handed.

Craziest thing I remember when going through NCAA Clearinghouse was them asking if I won any money by bowling. I bowled on a league in HS, and they made it seem as if I had won money I would have been ineligible

IMHO there is a risk in everything you do! You could be hit by a car and end your playing career, with the rampant number of people texting and driving and drinking and driving it's not out of the realm of plausibility! My who way of thinking growing up and playing football and with my marriage as well is if it's going to happen it will, my will is God's will!

Apologize for bringing religion in, it's just part of my reasoning for thinking the way I do!

Would love to see them play, but it's a personal decision so I understand it.

I have changed my opinion.

Originally I was completely against the practice. I felt it was selfish. I also felt is disloyal the teammates and school that helped the player along the way.

Today I don’t have an issue. I cannot hold it against someone for taking a payday that will provide security for the family for a generation. I would do the same thing.

For me, the risk of injury and losing that opportunity is not worth a bowl trophy.
