I know it won't work for you, but I always started a new job by explaining that I was from Alabama with most of my family in Mississippi and was an Auburn fan that joined the Navy to see the world but went on submarines so I couldn't see shit. The lower I set their expectations for me, the easier I had it.

"Tact" is the ability to tell them to "go to hell" in a way that they actually look forward to the trip. "Devious" is the ability to send them to hell in a way that they enjoy the ride.
