Favorite non american food

Ever listen to that Jim Gaffigan bit about working in a Mexican restaurant? People asking "what's a tostada?"

"Its a tortilla with meat and vegetables and cheese"

"What's a burrito"

"Its a tortilla with meat and vegetables and cheese"

"What's a taco?"

"Its a tortilla with meat and vegetables and cheese"

Etc etc.

All the food chains are Americanized version of what ever they are selling.
Taco Bell and Chipotle don't count as Mexican food.

I've been eating at a local family owned and operated place for about 20 years. Some of the employees barely speak English.

Ironically, they moved into a new building just hundreds of yards from the old one adjacent to a Taco Bell.

Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had was in Pueblo, CO at the little "mom and pop" restaurants. More food than you can eat, authentic, and delicious!

I knew I'd be the first to say Chinese.. fuck!

its a toss up,, I love fajitas, burritos, n soft tacos.. Hard shell tacos are the debil.. rice and beans mixed together go right well with chips n salsa..
but also, General Tso's Chicken, beef and broccoli, Fried Rice, Lo Mein noodles are fantastic, but fuck the fortune cookie, I havent been able to read one in years :)

Mom and pop places tend to be some of the best eating in my experience no matter the type of food.

The California burrito I usually get must weigh as much as a brick. Then there's the fresh chips and salsa that come with it.

I prefer Mexican as a goto over others, in general, but like many cuisines. Italian, Thai, Chinese, French, German, etc.

Like Nod said Mexican is tortilla, meat, vegetables, sauce, and cheese. That makes Taco Bell Mexican-ish; same components, just not authentic creations. What the heck is a Trilupa?

Taco bell is cheap, good, and quick.
Authentic Mexican is much better, but not as cheap. Rather go to a mom and pop than a Chipotle for the same money.

Love General Tso's chicken, but it's a twentieth century creation, and not authentic, but still delicious. Have a preference for Szechuan and Hunan style.

Mexican. You can throw a rock in any direction around here and hit a Mexican food place. A couple great sit down places, but the best “to go” place is inside a Shell gas station. The gal working the register speaks enough English to take your order but that’s about it. Always a line with Mexicans and white guys wearing construction/road crew clothes.

There was a "Taco truck" about 2 miles from Nod's place. Folks barely spoke English. It was really good. There was a pretty big line like you say, but those little busy places like that are always the best.

Mexican, if no Mexican German, if no German, Lily Thai...
I prefer the Thai sisters.
