You’d be surprised how much cattle there is along that stretch of hwy 1. Those families have owned that land for generations. None of that land will ever be developed. If it ever does hit the market, the Big Sur Land Trust will buy it immediately.
Funny story about Hwy 1 and cattle. Driving on Hwy 1 north of San Francisco when I approached a blind hairpin turn. A sign on the side of the road warned to watch for cows. One of my kids asked about it and I replied that those signs were a waste and there wouldn't be any cows in the road. Well sure enough as soon as I finished that statement and made the turn in the road there was a cow right smack in the middle of the road with his buddy laying on the shoulder just relaxing.

Moral of the story....Pops is a dumbass....don't listen to him.

That reminds me of a hunting trip to Missouri when I was in the fifth grade, but kind of the opposite situation.

We were heading back to Kansas City in a blizzard the night before our flight home with my dad driving. Yes, from Florida but he traveled up and down the east coast working for years.

On the interstate my younger brother asked our mother why we were going so slow. Within seconds, a car skidded past us on its lid. Mom turned around and said honey, that's why.

St.Albert which is its own city is a 20 min drive from Edmonton and it’s median household income is over like 70K.

Other than that, we’ve got beautiful but expensive living in British Columbia and an outstanding transit system in Calgary with a vibrant downtown
