Rush Propst Accuses Kirby Smart and Nick Saban of Paying Players (msn.com)

Rush Propst was caught on tape making some big-time accusations about two college football powerhouses. In a recorded conversation, Propst claimed the Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and Alabama head coach Nick Saban are paying players using wealthy donors and boosters.

Propst is a highly controversial figure in high school football, so some will dismiss anything he says outright, but he seems to have a ton of details about the inner workings of both programs. He also coached in both Alabama and Georgia and had high-level recruits play under him at multiple stops.

this isn't comon knowledge ??

Let's not jerk each other off. Everybody's doing it and have been for decades. I'm just surprised that this guy said it. Ain't no telling how much money he cost himself. He has been coaching top level HS teams for years. Prolly put hundreds of players in D1. You can bet he's got his palm greased numerous times for convincing blue chips towards a certain school. Yeah....let's talk about the elephant in the room out loud. That will make my cut bigger, right? Read the article. Dude is a serious piece of shit. That whole "secret second family" thing that made him leave Hoover, Dafuq???????

Apparently he's achieved Biden stupid status.

Georgia Begins Investigating Allegations of Paying College Football Players (msn.com)

Propst later became the head coach at Colquitt County High in Georgia, and he was eventually suspended for violating five standards for the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators. He allegedly gave pills to his players on multiple occasions, including "out of his pocket, in the office area, at halftime and at his truck," The Moultrie Observer reported.

"He was also investigated for insubordination, owing nearly $301,000 in federal taxes and $143,000 in state taxes, interfering with the hiring of his school's principal, trying to charge a personal hotel stay to the school district and interfering in another sport. There has also been a rift between Nelson and Propst ever since Propst became the coach at Valdosta. Nelson alleges that Propst told him they needed to pay players to attend Valdosta, and that he needed to reach into the Touchdown Club's coffers to make that happen, according to the Journal-Constitution. Some of that money included a $2,500-per-month stipend to quarterback Jake Garcia, who transferred from California. That was for the star player's room and food, according to a 64-page sworn affidavit by Nelson, who claims Propst also sought an extra $850 per month for Amari Jones, another transfer quarterback."

Yeah, this dude is a real piece of work. I mean, where do you get enough money that you could even owe nearly half a million dollars in back taxes?

Remember Pruitt was his DC at Hoover if I'm not mistaken during the MTV Two A Days show. I'm guessing this is Pruitt speaking through Propst who has already ruined his own reputation at multiple stops.

Georgia needs Saban to retire. He's been their big thorn 4 times since 2012. Aside from that, Kirby is doing an outstanding job. 5 top 5 recruiting classes has resulted in 5 top 5 finishes. What would you suggest he do differently?
I think he means a better ROI on the players, not Kirby.

Yeah, I understood that. My point still applies. Saban is much older, much more experienced, and much wiser, than Kirby. Kirby does a great job of getting as much as he can out of his players, but he's simply not as good at it as Saban. Not yet, anyway. Kirby is learning how to be a head coach incredibly fast. He's had as much success in his first 5 years as a head coach as any one that I can remember. Well, other than Erk Russell.

There is plenty of teams waiting on Saban to retire.

While we all know all the teams are cheating. Some better then others. I do think it is getting to ne a little ridiculous. You cant tell me there isnt huge cash handouts going to suck in these classes. I'm not Kelly fan. And I have been vocal on that front. But Kelly was right when he said that right now it just isnt an equal fight for everyone.

As long as you have teams with this insane money and fan base willing to just kick out cash for recruits. The rich is just going to keep getting richer.

I'm to the point it just isnt fun to watch anymore. There is 3 to 5 absolutely elite teams year after year. And everyone else is just hoping to catch them on a bad day.

I'm well beyond my naive years like most here. Pay for play has been happening for decades. 50 years ago it was $100 handshakes. The rich boosters for every school are willing to do whatever they need to do to see success at their alma mater. It's always been that way. ALWAYS.

The biggest difference I see in CFB is how important it is in the South compared to the rest of the nation.

To quote Tony Barnhart AKA "Mr. College Football" -

"On the East Coast, football is a cultural experience. In the Midwest, it's a form of cannibalism. On the West Coast, it's a tourist attraction. And in the South, football is a religion, and Saturday is the holy day."

Truly rich religious people put insane amounts of money in the offering plate at church every Sunday in hopes that they can buy their way into Heaven. Truly rich football fanatics in the South do the same in hopes of buying their way to that proverbial promised land called a Natty.

UPDATE:

Valdosta (Ga.) High School football coach Rush Propst on leave pending investigation into improper benefits allegations (espn.com)

Valdosta High School placed football coach Rush Propst on administrative leave on Tuesday, pending a Georgia High School Association investigation into allegations that he arranged for improper benefits to players' parents to move with their sons into the school district and other misconduct, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Sources told ESPN that Propst has provided Alabama and Georgia officials with affidavits in which he denied having personal knowledge of recruiting violations committed by either program.

Just a few things:
I've seen this in several places. And a lot of people are calling bs on this. Seems he's trying to get some heat off himself.
It's almost like he is willing to say anything and turn state's evidence for a reduced sentence. Interesting strategy, Cotton ...

He allegedly gave pills to his players on multiple occasions, including "out of his pocket, in the office area, at halftime and at his truck," The Moultrie Observer reported.
FWIW, I wouldn't have played HS football for a coach that didn't. We had only 13 football players and needed the help.

Dude just bit off the hand that has fed him his entire career.

Here's my theory...take into consideration that everything I type in this post is hypothetical speculation.

So Probst has a very long career as a high level High School HC. I mean 6-7A big time HS programs that put multiple players in D1 every year. Boosters are gonna funnel money to him to convince that 5-star DB, QB, RB, etc.... to go to to their school. Yeah, that happens all over the country. It's how a high school coach can supplement the shitty income they make as a high school teacher. That's how it works in big time football at every level. College coaches regularly get a large portion of their salary from boosters in one form or another. The school is never on the hook for the full amount.

Anyways, Probst loses his fucking mind and decides to spill the beans just to deflect the new found heat he put on himself at Valdosta. 3rd big time high school job, 3rd time he's made himself look like the real piece of shit he is.

So he talks shit about big time programs Bama and UGA....because he coached in Alabama and Georgia. Ain't no telling how much he benefited from those 2 programs, or others around the southeast, but he fucked himself.

Anyways, then the GHSA decides to "investigate" him. He gets suspended until said "investigation" is finished.

Here's where it gets interesting....

The GHSA is mostly run by current and former high school coaches. They spent their career enjoying the "supplemental income" from convincing players to go to a certain school depending on the price tag.

Dumbass spilled the beans and the GHSA is about to BAN his ass. He thought he was deflecting, but he was actually destroying the high school head coach cash cow that most never think about.

Go back and look at recruiting and what the players have said for decades. "Coach told me that going there would give me the best chance to get to the NFL and make the money I have always expected.

You have very sound reasoning. He has dug a hole, do you think he believes he has the GHSA over a barrel because of his first hand knowledge? I don't think his "insurance policy" will work out as he plans.

Pay better players, get better assistants, bigger support staff, etc. The point remains. If UGA is paying all this money, and all they have to show for it is one playoff appearance and still now 40 years and counting without a Nationtal Title, then the ROI is negative.
