No. That's the problem. He is a legit decent coach. I don't think he is elite. I think he is in that same boat as Harbaugh, Franklin, Riley etc. Just 1 step from being elite.
It takes a different kind of coach to win at ND. I mean every school is unique and their pluses and minuses. Just like people say. Well it is Bama. Anyone can win there. Well, tell Shula and other that right? But at ND. For any real disadvantage, you have other advantages that others don't. And you have to leverage that. And for some reason Kelly failed to. He loved to find coaches that take care of what he needed. And even if they didn't do good enough of a job. As long as they were willing to do the shittiest recruiting trips or whatever. He kept them on staff. Long after anyone else would have canned them. A perfect example. Brian VanGordner. We all were screaming for his head.for a year before he finally got let go. But since he was willing to recruit 24 / 365 at the detriment of being able to be more hands on in actually coaching and helping his defense Kelly left him on staff.
