My old F250 had a 6 speed with a granny gear, in low range given enough traction, that thing would pull down a house. I've heard good thing about the transmission, but have not heard much about the V6...

It's been in the F150 for quite a few years with a good track record. It makes 400 lb/ft of torque and is actually the most popular F150 engine.
