Roland Guerin... reknowned Louisiana bassist performed for my high school jazz band with a trio. I was a trombone player at the time but been a bassist since.
James Jamerson... THE sound of all the Motown hits. That’s his drunk ass playing all that sweet shit!
I’ll put down Jaco Pastorius for “obscure”.. he was the GOAT.
New bassist would be Oteil Burbridge... currently with Dead & Co and The Allman Brothers
“Express Yourself” by Charles Wright and the 110th St Band...
“Body and Soul” a traditional jazz ballad
“Continuum” by Jaco Pastorius... fucking hard but could play it a while back... not sure about now
Love Song by The Cure

Now I’ve got some googling and iTunesing to do.

I’m more of a groover but I appreciate 5 star talent. Michael Pipoquinha is once in a century talent imo.. mind blowing!!

When words get out that I was beaten to death with drumsticks you will know that I stole this ...
I remember when I first heard that. I was asking some legit questions about how he decided to focus on certain instruments since he played quite a few. He didn’t play drums, but he made sure our buddy who does heard the comment. Hilarity ensued.
