Michael Penix Jr. > Joe Milton

I’m not saying Penis doesn’t deserve it…but this kind of shit renders the Heisman bullshit. Dix outplayed Penix. Fact. Just cuz your guy- to his credit, kept them undefeated for what he could do- is undefeated, doesn’t make him better. But, enjoy the trophy. But it is now a lock, and his to lose.
Michael Penix Jr: 22-of-37, 302 pass yards, 4-1 TD-INT, 89.2 QBR
Bo Nix: 33-of-44, 337 pass yards, 2 TDs, 82.0 QBR

1. Michael Penix Jr., Washington
Give him the Heisman. I don’t care that it’s October. The most exciting player in college football plays quarterback for the Washington Huskies. He has the numbers to back it up — 2,301 yards, 20 touchdowns, just three picks — and now has a game-winning touchdown throw in his team’s biggest game of the season. If Washington hits 10 wins this season, the Heisman Trophy belongs to Michael Penix Jr.

Penix vaulted himself atop Heisman lists and thusly the On3 Top 25 quarterback rankings by leading Washington to a marquee win. And with the win, Penix and Washington are now on the inside track to potentially win the Pac-12. Penix was challenged by Oregon more than any team to date and still shredded. He completed 22-of-37 attempts for 302 yards and four touchdowns and an interception as Washington hung on for a win.

Midseason MVP and Offensive Player of the Half-Year: Washington QB Michael Penix Jr.
I originally split these awards between Penix and USC’s Caleb Williams, but Week 7 was enough to separate them.

At this point, heading straight toward a Heisman Trophy, how is Penix not the guy? The Washington quarterback leads the country in passing yards per game by nearly 40 more than No. 2, Shedeur Sanders. He ranks 1st in passing touchdowns per game and 3rd in passing efficiency.

The Huskies are undefeated, ranked 5th and coming off a key win over No. 8 Oregon in which Penix put the finishing touches with a quick game-winning touchdown drive.

Michael Penix Jr. takes home the Heisman Trophy: The Washington quarterback is the runaway favorite to win the award at the midway point of the college football season.

But one player, to no great surprise, has earned near-unanimous acclaim: Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

Fresh off his impressive performance in a come-from-behind win over the Oregon Ducks, the Heisman Trophy frontrunner has been a universal selection as a first-team All-American at quarterback. It’s fitting for a player who not only is putting up video game-like statistics, but also plays in college football’s best conference alongside a group of quarterbacks that is the deepest in the country. Here’s what The Athletic had to say about Penix’s selection:

“Any midseason debate about the top choice at quarterback ended Saturday when Penix led Washington to a dramatic win against Oregon and Caleb Williams threw three first-half interceptions in a loss to Notre Dame. Penix is the midseason Heisman Trophy frontrunner — he received all 34 first-place votes in The Athletic’s straw poll — having completed 72.1 percent of his passes for 2,301 yards, 20 touchdowns and three interceptions for an offense that leads the nation with an average of 8.5 yards per play. When Washington needed a late touchdown to beat Oregon, Penix needed only two passes to go 53 yards for the win.”

Added ESPN: “Penix is currently the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy and has already had his big-stage moment in rallying Washington to a thrilling 36-33 win over Oregon on Saturday. Penix, one of the many talented transfer quarterbacks around the country, is No. 1 nationally by a wide margin with 383.5 passing yards per game and has thrown 20 touchdown passes and just three interceptions.”

The Huskies’ dramatic win over Oregon could not have come at a better time for Penix’s Heisman campaign — or for recognition on these midseason teams.
