Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. feels better after battling an illness the last two weeks. The Huskies are days away from a clash with USC on the road and will need Penix at his best to keep up with the Heisman-powered Trojans offense led by quarterback Caleb Williams.

"I was sick. I'm good now," Penix said via Mike Vorel of The Seattle Times. "I'm good."

In Washington's latest outing, it downed Stanford, 42-33, on the road. Penix threw for 369 passing yards with four touchdowns and an interception on 21-of-38 attempts. After the win, Huskies coach Kalen DeBoer revealed Penix was battling an illness, impacting his play.

"Yeah, he's not feeling good," DeBoer said at the time. "He's definitely not feeling good. But he's not going to make excuses and we're not either. He was out there and threw the ball. There are a couple things, he's battling through it."

#1 Michael Penix Jr., Washington Huskies
At the top of the list after Week 8, we have Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix. Washington has an undefeated record at 8-0 and was ranked No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Penix has been brilliant in his first eight contests, throwing for 2,945 yards and 24 touchdowns to just six interceptions, including a crucial top-ten win over Oregon in Week 6.

Washington is a real threat in the College Football Playoff hunt, in large part due to its air raid offense led by a star quarterback. It's hard to put anyone above Penix in the Heisman Trophy race right now, and the trophy appears to be his to lose at the halfway point of the season.
