I'm gonna finish off this 6 -pack then crash. Work again tonight. After that, work Wednesday and Thursday night, then doing 4 10s on day shift for the next 3 months. Damn shame I didn't get a 3 day weekend every week during football season. :(
I always liked the 4 10's shift. Once we started rotating it I liked it even better. We would work Mon - Thurs one week, have Fri, Sat, Sun, and Mon off, then work Tues - Fri, have Sat and Sun off, then start the rotation again. I felt like I was stealing time I had so much time off! Enjoy your beer and get you a good nap!

Good morning. I was out deer hunting last evening and there were some does and fawns in the field out in front of me, now there had been small flocks of geese going over honking as they normally do, and then I hear a different honk and keep hearing it for about a minute before I saw them, a pretty good sized flock of swans buzzed over head, I knew what it was when I heard them but the deer all scattered, I had to chuckle, who knew deer were afraid of swans.

I'm drinking beer. Thanks for nuthin, asshole.

Calling me an asshole????!!!! You are … are … well … correct, so cheers!!!! BTW, it was always funny seeing the look on a cashier's face when I bought a case of beer at 7:30 after a night shift.

I always thought rotating 4-10s was the best work schedule until I got on a rotating 12's. You did rotate from days to nights but you only worked 15 days a month and had seven consecutive days off without interrupting your pay(biweekly pay periods). You had eight hours built in OT per pay period and you could really rack up the OT during you seven days off, if you chose to do so. Everything over 12 hours OT was paid at time and three quarters. The company made and enforced an 1000 OT hour limit and many of us hit that.

I worked a rotating DuPont 12 hour schedule for years. I loved the 7 days off in a row every month, but hated the flipping from days to nights and nights to days. I was tired all the time. On my 7 off it was Wednesday before I felt human again and by Saturday I had to start getting ready to go back to nights on Monday night. It was rough.

I'm on 12s but work days only. We work a 48 and 36 in a pay period with 3 off every other weekend.

I was at Eastman and the switch never bothered me. I got used to just a few hours rest back on my boat when we started every run in port and starboard duty. Added to that, I was A-Gangs RPPO and/or DCPO so I grew to live off of power naps. I am no where young enough for that kind of silliness now, but thrived on it back then.

Youth is wasted on the young! ;)

The only reward for that is after listening to your kids talk about old men not being able to hang and then quoting them back to themselves as they age.
I remember my grandfather telling my dad "boy you're going to regret that shit when you're older" and dad telling him he was full of shit.
Fast forward and dad telling me "boy you're going to regret that shit when you're older" and ME telling dad "you're full of shit pops! I'm tough!
Turns out they were both right, but at least there are some funny stories to tell LOL!

4 10s are the best...
25 years of 4/10’s. Loved that schedule.
