Just talked to her again. She was out and about for about 3 hours today. Still no Oxy's. She said she's sore, but not in pain. Walked across the kitchen without her walker. I'm amazed. She had a hip bone and the top half of her femur replaced. The surgery did not take place in a hospital, it was done in her doctor's office surgical center. It took 3.5 hours. Recovery was about an hour. In less than 5 hours, they released her. I don't know if I posted this here before, but here's a picture of the X-ray prior to the surgery. Notice that the ball on her right hip is just gone, nonexistent.

Yesterday, when she got released, I took her to her daughter's house and she went to sleep. When she woke up 4 hours later to got to the bathroom, she stood up from the bed and immediately said, "WOW! My legs are the same length." Because of the missing part of her right femur, her right leg was about 2 inches shorter before the surgery.

She's doing exactly what the doctor told her to do. He told her that getting on her feet and walking would help her recover faster.

I spent the majority of my adult life not being so lucky in the "wife" department, but this one........just damn. I am a lucky man.

She drove the golf cart for me today while I played 18. Her doctor told her that he was very pleased with her procedure. Told her she can do whatever she wants to as long as she doesn't get crazy with it. Go to the beach, get on the lawn mower and cut the grass, whatever. She's moving around better than she has in months. No walker, no cane, no pain.

I told her today that the most important thing for me was seeing her smile...watching her enjoying things again. She was in a really dark place mentally before her surgery. Between the severe pain, struggling to get out of bed, unable to go or do anything, and handcuffed to a walker just to make it to see a doctor, she was sad and scared all the time. It hurt me to see such a vibrant woman and busy body so seemingly defeated. Her mental state has made an amazing turnaround. That has given me an astounding relief that I can't find words to describe.

We are trying to schedule her other hip replacement for the first week of August when we get back from the get together in Boone, NC. Her doctor told her that he was confident enough in this one that he could do the other one now if she wanted.

Very good. But, as a word of advice. Had a friend get a knee replacement a coupla years ago and he did to much to quick and it caused problems.
Set him back almost a month before he could really get moving again. So, yeah. Take it a bit easy but do get moving around.
Maybe not easy for people who have a motor that is not wired for, oh, low gear operation. But sometimes gotta adjust and deal with it.
