I like Pencil Thin Mustache as well but we need a shoutout for Why Don't We Get Drunk(and Screw).
Sober?
For me it is more about the mystery solving and far more about rewriting the history of America than finding gold/silver. I am quite jaded with all Templar/Mason theories in pop culture, most of which are pure speculation, but would love to find some more proof that Europeans were traveling to North America centuries before they are credited.I just don't get the appeal of the series. If anyone ever actually found the treasure, it'd be a national story. Ergo, we'd know well before the episode ever appeared as they tape this stuff well in advance of airing.
I do find archeological stuff fascinating. Archeology and anthropology were my fields of study before I finally said eff it and decided to jump into the work force full force. For me it is more about the mystery solving and far more about rewriting the history of America than finding gold/silver. I don't understand why we still teach that the Americas were discovered in the 1400s. L’Anse aux Meadows is proof that the Vikings were here with a near constant presence during the Dark Ages. I read somewhere that the floorplans of those buildings indicate they were built over a few centuries. I would be willing to bet that it is not the only settlement the Vikings made. It also opens up the possibility that more than the Chinese and Vikings have sailed here.I do find archeological stuff fascinating. I'm now convinced there's a sunken ship in the (man made?) swamp. Closing in on the original money pit. Time to bring in the 10 foot caissons.
Spoiler alert I suppose.
OK, watched Tuesday's episode yesterday. Intro turned into a nothing sandwich as far as the money pit......made it look like something special was coming out of the bore hole and it turned out to be air. @OldDevilDawg I see what you were getting at regarding the swamp. They pulled out lots of wood from there this week. However, it doesn't really seem to me that they're digging where the "ship shaped anomaly" is located. Am I looking at the maps and stuff wrong?
Looks the same to me. Curious whether they can get the excavator close to the anomaly. I have experience on those machines in wet places. It's not as easy as it looks. With such a short boom, they would almost have to put it on top of a potential collapse. They may need to bring in an excavator with an extended boom of 75' or more. That is super expensive and I can see why they would want more confidence of a financial return before spending that kind of money.
Pretty sure they said this season's excavator has an 80' boom.....then that one season they used the excavator that had the crazy wide tracks for swampy land. I think they have the means to get to the area and are just screwing with us lol.

Wasn't the ship like anomaly over 100' deep in the swamp?
Don't recall the depth, but I can't imagine it's that deep. It's been a while on that one though. I'm actually considering binge watching the entire thing again just so I can remember some of the stuff.
Speculation has always been that it was 2 separate islands until the dam was built to make it a "man made" swamp. If true, it's not a stretch to think the water was 100 feet deep between the two islands.
That is not a bad idea for me as well.Don't recall the depth, but I can't imagine it's that deep. It's been a while on that one though. I'm actually considering binge watching the entire thing again just so I can remember some of the stuff.
