There were enough Union folks around here that when someone says their relative fought in the Civil War, you need to ask for which side. I just use the "up North" line to mess with my work colleagues.

Tn was split, east TN did not want to succeed and the west did. TN also knew that most of the fighting would be in TN. After the North ganged up on TN and broke through, Georgia, South Carolina and bama fell like a house of cards.

The problem the South had was they only had one (bunch of ass kickers) Tennessee. Tennessee is like the Special forces of states.
