The new and improved Good Morning thread!

Morning...

Well, I got a call yesterday morning that my oldest brother was back in the hospital ( he is 72 ) and his organs are failing. His kidneys have stopped working, his liver is failing, having trouble breathing on his own etc etc... they put him on a ventilator and then called me since he has no immediate family down there in Florida. After talking to the doctor then my other surviving brother we agreed to put in a DNR order.

They are supposed to call me today and let me know if he is improving or getting worse. The plan is if he is getting worse then to take him off the ventilator and make him comfortable then let him pass on naturally. The doctor thinks this will happen pretty quick due to his condition.

Never thought I would be the one pulling the plug on my brother. I am the youngest and my next oldest brother just isn't that responsible... once my oldest brother passes then I will be the one making all the arrangements, and I am also the executor of the will. The main problem is we don't know if he actually got a will filed in time.... he was working on that as late as the 18th, before Thanksgiving. So on top of all that I will most likely have to go back down to Florida, go through his house and see if I can find any documentation, else his last wife who he never bothered getting a divorce from, will come in and take most everything even though he hasn't even seen her in five years.

Off to work...

My sincerest condolences. We are going through something similar with my MIL who is 83 and we put her on hospice care. Months ago she was given days to live so we are now in the second guessing mode. If there is anything I can do, even if you just need to vent, please let me know.

Sheesh. Good luck man.

Thanks everybody. This is the first time I have had to deal with this kind of situation as my oldest brother always did. So talked to the doctor and he said that my brother was deteriorating quickly and we discussed the end of life procedures then I told him to go ahead and take him off the ventilator and make sure he is comfortable.

Now, I am just waiting on the call that he has passed. Really mixed feelings about all this but I do know that he would not have wanted to be kept alive artificially. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers.

My youngest and I will drive down Wednesday to get the death certificate and have him moved to a mortuary and all that. Now I need to call my other brother and let him know.

Kinda like when my mom went on. God bless and take care.

The doctor called me on the way home from work. He said my brother passed about 7 mins after taking him off life support. He was sedated so he did not feel anything and the doc said he went very quietly.

So, now to plan my trip down next week to see to his arrangements and get him to the funeral home etc. I am just glad he is in a better place now.

So sorry for your loss bro.
