I fall in this category alot of the time as well. I'm sure we all would appreciate it if you gave us some general tips to improve our sleep!
Here are some general tips (let me know if ya'll would like a separate thread to reference later):
- Limit your time in bed to only the time you are going to be sleeping. If you need to, don't get in bed until midnight or later and get up at your normal time.
- If you can't sleep, get out of bed. Go somewhere dimly lit and do something that will make you more tired (i.e. reading - "Goodnight Insomnia" is recommended by our sleep clinic.
- Start a nighttime routine. That will help your body start winding down and kinda condition you to start preparing to sleep.
- Put away devices and stop watching tv before going to bed. We recommend two hours, but our physicians even have a hard time doing that so just go for as long as you can. Personally, I try for 45 minutes. Turn everything off, get ready for tomorrow, do my routine, maybe meditate, and head to sleep.
Again, I can do a separate thread with some more detailed examples and tips after work if ya'll would like!

How much beer should I drink before bed time?

I study sleep disorders for a living and just for fun so if you'd like help with this, I can give some suggestions
While I appreciate the gesture, I’m pretty much a lost cause LOL! I do all the things you’re not supposed to do. I’m a heavy smoker, I drink way too much caffeine, I don’t exercise, and I don’t eat right. On top of that I’m old and have lots of aches and pains LOL!I don’t have a problem going to sleep, I have a problem staying asleep if I get five or six hours it’s a good night LOL! I toss and turn all night long and I wake up with something hurting and have to reposition and roll over and change positions all night long.

Yeah. All of the above. Add in the last 4 years of swing shift. Now, I sleep about 2 hours at a time. Day or night....doesn't matter. I was hoping that staying on dayshift would change that, but 3 months in, still no change. I was hoping it was just my "circadian rhythm" being fucked up, but apparently not.
