The Pit of Misery: Politics and Religion

Defunding and disband of the Police is a smart move.
Cities will really burn. It will get out of real control. Shootings will become common place. The UN will be called in to disarm the Citizens. The Floyd Family has contacted the UN for assistance in disarming the Police, so I have read.

Any city stupid enough to do that will look like Beruit in a very short time.

Another threat to college football, besides the virus.

Support us or else.
I will not support kneeling during the anthem. To me that is almost akin to not bowing your head during prayer. I don't care if it's my team or not. @OldDevilDawg is right, completely counter productive. Talk about alienating veterans and fans. They could use this whole thing to bring people together and talk but instead their demand is basically do what I say or else. That is unacceptable to me. If you feel that you have been oppressed let's have that conversation. By kneeling you are dishonoring the very people that fought for and defended your right to do that. That's my say.

The bolded part will not go well for them.

Nailed it.

This isn't about racism, or police brutality, or accountability, systemic injustice, poverty, or fear.

It's about power.

Out of curiosity? When is the right time to when the discussion? The players do a non violent protest, silently, people bitch. They do peaceful marches, people bitch. Violence erupts, people bitch. They post on social media, people bitch. They say something to the media, people bitch.

The truth is, people don’t want to hear messages they don’t agree with, anytime.

Exactly. Such as the Black Lives Matter movement is based on bullshit.

If you kneel, and atone for the crimes of others, you admit you're a racist.
If you refuse to kneel, you are a racist because you didn't kneel.
I do not kneel for no man.

Right now is the time. It is not the time to alienate. Here's a simple example for you, If you want to win someone to your way of thinking do you rant and rave, give edicts, and do public symbols that denigrate, or do you try to explain your position in a positive and unconfrontational way? Where's the benefit of purposely trying to diminish something that so many hold dear? All that happens when someone does that is drive a wedge between both sides. I understand that there are people on both sides that want to forment mayhem, and want to hurt the other, they are usually the loudest voices, or at least the one's that are broadcast unfortunately. Football, sports in general, are great unifier's in that so many people enjoy watching them and don't give a flying rat's ass what color the person is playing the game, fans just want to see the best players possiblle and to win. For players to say you either support what we do unconditionally is not a healthy way to preach togetherness.

But previous ways haven’t been working either. As mentioned before.

And my guess, your average Iowa fan doesn’t give a shit about these players outside how they perform on Sat so they can feel better about being an Iowan, like most sports. And your average Iowa player is probably staring to realize that.

As a whole, I still believe that people are inherently good. The problem is that the 10% that are narrowminded, selfish, and ignorant, fuck it up for everybody. Then throw in the MSM giving that 10% the headlines.....well, now you have a pissed off and divided society. Everyone got labeled whether it was deserving or not. Why are we all not talking about that part?

It doesn't fit the agenda.

"Divide and conquer" is still as effective as it was during the Roman Empire.

I can’t agree with some of that. I think the media is a far too convenient scapegoat for a country that throughout its history has been one to separate based on various demographics.

You say “Divide and Conquer” but who and what?

We were a country that was founded by religious labeling and identity and separation.

We grew to staunch differences between rural and urban, agricultural vs mechanical. Black vs White, Natives vs Immigrants. North vs South.

Generational differences have been woven in the fabric for years with the oldest more conservative views vs the younger more progressives.

We ID ourselves by our cities, our states, our region, our color, our ethnic heritage, our political views, our religion, our sports fandom, etc, It’s apart of being a “free country” taught to embrace our individual identity.

Sometimes it serves us good, sometimes it serves us bad.

I agree I think most people are good in that we recognize, either consciously or subconsciously the energy to being bad is more draining and we’d rather put energy into stuff we like and enjoy.

But we’re also ingrained to look out for ourselves, our family, and our way of life. And by that, the way of life that we know it, even if it’s completely different to another persons view of the way of life.

This is what causes the natural conflicts that exist in our day to day living that sometimes explodes.

You don't know Iowa very well. I'm a Iowa fan, born and raised. Iowa football is the biggest thing in the state, 2nd would be bball and then wrestling. These athletes are the darlings of the fans, they are idolized by kids the state over, and judging by message boards, and experience with fans my whole life, a healthy population of adults as well. Those athletes are celebrities to alot of people here. Hell I've seen it with my own eyes, a popular athlete walking around and people giving them well wishes. I don't personally do the celebrity thing. Everyone is a person to me, yep you are a better athlete, you are smarter, you can act, you can sing, to me it doesn't matter, what matters is your actions and respect for your fellow man. Aka what kind of person you are.
You state "But previous ways haven’t been working either. As mentioned before."
I would disagree some here, minorities have never had more access to education, jobs, housing, wealth, social status. I would say society has come a long way since the 50s. Is there work to do yet in some areas, sure, but to say that nothing has worked is disingenuous and ignores the gains that have happened and minimizes the hard work that people have done to better themselves and society.

Like most protestors don't give a shit about Floyd, and just want an excuse to express rage, virtue signal, riot or steal?
