Chris Hatcher (Current HC for Samford) was on Hal Mumme's staff as QB Coach. When he got hired to be HC at his Alma Mater, Valdosta State, he accepted Will Muschamp's (his DC) suggestion of hiring Kirby to coach DBs. It was Kirby's first coaching job.

Edited to add: The reason Hatcher hired Kirby was because Kirby intercepted Couch 3 times in the '97 game.

i was a 11 year old kid at the time. missed the first half because i walked to the local mall by myself (not happening today). returned to grandma’s house to watch the second half

the rest is history. they (grandma & siblings) wouldn’t let me leave the room. considered me good luck.

on a side note, Grandma would have kicked all your asses if social media was around then.
