Got home earlier ... noticed that my PC rebooted on its own randomly so I fired up my temp app and sure enough the CPU was smoking hot. So I thought no biggee... went out to my garage and got some thermal paste, unplugged my machine and set it up on my work bench. Removed the heat sink and yes the paste on the CPU was pretty much burned off so I applied new thermal paste and then started wrestling with the damn heat sink as it has a back plate that it screws into and sure enough... I broke the damn bracket that the screws on the heat sink go thru.

Drug out my backup box and thought well F it I will fire this thing up and sure enough it had an old password on it ... after trying every password I could think of I got pissed and unplugged it and tossed it in the closet. I am now on my laptop .... this is bullshit. looks like I am going shopping tomorrow and I'm either coming home with a new heat sink setup or a new PC.... I am not in the mood for this shit tonight.

did you try "big boobz" ??

Nah that's my work password.
Depends on what you use for a comp. I buy off lease workstation comps off ebay for 3 to 400 dollars/ 16 maybe 32 gigs of ram XEON processors decent graphics cards. Things engineers and/or software designers use. Last several years and then get another one.

Well I have slept on it and after waking up and having a cup of coffee .... I have planned my day. I'm bout to hook up the old backup machine and hammer away at it with an old Hirams USB stick I have and see if I can break into it ,,,, if successful I will be ecstatic. If not I will cuss a blue streak until I feel better than head out to peruse the local PC shops around here.

I am really hoping I can get into the old box as I have my password spreadsheets on both machines so if I cannot get into the backup this will be painful until I can order another heat sink setup for my main box.

WooHoo!

Well I realized I was not thinking clearly when I was sitting here staring at my login screen wondering what the hell to do ... funny how you can do something for 30 years and the simple solution just eludes you.

I got back on my laptop and downloaded Hiren's bootable CD iso ... burned it to a USB stick and booted up on it then cleared out all the passwords on this box.

Let me tell you ... such a relief cause I could not even remember my old email password ( Pro tip kids... write your most important passwords down somewhere. ) So now I am just going thru and gathering all my passwords and making copies outside of my PC ...next I will be ordering a new water cooled heatsink for my new(er) box and will probly get it next week in the mail cause they don't sell these locally ... geez... I haven't even watched a game with all this crap going on. but I am about to smoke a well earned bowl then chill out and watch some games.

Is there any chance that your machine has a manual password reset switch ... IIRC it would be labeled as P3 or something like that.
