Bo Nix to Oregon

I like them a lot more now that Lanning is the HC. This Bo Nix thing makes no sense to me.
Bo is a hell of an athlete. He’s also a shitty QB. One game he looks like Steve Young, the next game he couldn’t hit water if he was in a rowboat in the Pacific Ocean. Absolutely no consistency. He makes poor decisions, and instead of going through his progressions and making the correct throws, he tries to create with his feet. Or, he’ll just heave the ball and hope. I wouldn’t want him anywhere near my team. Hell, I wouldn’t even want him TEXTING anyone with close ties to the team.
On top of that, he’s an asshole.

At the risk of derailing the thread, the whole transfer portal thing definitely has its pros and cons.

I will say this. With USC’s recent hiring of Riley and his statement that the roster will probably see a 35 or more effect on it. The portal is a good thing. Before if these kids were caught in the change of coaching, which means style, they were stuck. Now they have the availability to find another university that fits their talent.

As I think we all agree, college football is changing. I’m old and don’t like change, but that’s on me.

It's time for the true HC's to shine. IMO, Sparty is among the teams that have one that can navigate the chaos.

I think Tucker is well suited to the task. He embraces social media in a genuine way, which definitely helps these days. More than I’d like it to tbh, but that’s how kids communicate.

Any HC that can maintain stability is going to win some games, even if there’s a talent gap to a team in transition. The tough part will be creating stability and getting guys to buy in even if they don’t start from Day 1.

I am not sure if I can agree with you on this because IMHO you cannot make that judgement unless he had the tools to do his job and I don't think Auburn has provided those tools. For starters Gus' system is not a passing QB's friend and normally had only one or two receivers per play as a target. Add in the O line getting Bo beat like he was cheating on Ike Turner with Bobby Brown and the fact that the game planning has not featured RPOs, slants and/or any other hot routs to counter blitzes and what are you expecting him to do? There is a reason that Auburn has only been challenging for the SECW when we have a Kerrion Johnson/Trey Mason/Cam type back getting the ball 30 times a game. I am not saying that he is a great or even good QB, just that Auburn failed to provide him the tools to develop into one.

East coast folks on the west coast. Who will be in for the bigger culture shock? Dan and Bo? Or the Ducks with adjusting to SEC style football?

It’s your program, so you probably know more than I do. I just know what I have seen. FWIW, I held the same opinion on Jalen Hurts regarding skill set early on. Jalen improved, while Bo seems to regress. . (Character Wise Bo is not even in the same hemisphere as Jalen. ) Time will tell. If he turns it around at Oregon, I’ll give him credit.

First and foremost, Jalen is the type of young man that you hope your daughter dates. I think more of him than probably any current player because of how he conducted himself when Tua took over. He displayed pure class, pure integrity, work ethic, and a team first attitude after being benched. I just think that Gus, and Auburn in general, failed to give Bo the tools for development. He very well might have regressed either way but I just believe he was never put in a position to succeed given the tools/training/system he had at his disposal.
