Michael Penix Jr. > Joe Milton

Let me know when Penix wins Pac player of the week before you go off on a Heisman tangent little fellow.

@della are we having fun yet. :)

TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS (OVERRATED)
AP Poll ranking: No. 23

Are we sure Joe Milton is "the guy" for the Volunteers? There's a three-game sample size indicating Tennessee's vaunted offense is stuck in neutral a bit with its new quarterback and several new starters at wideout. There's a chance Saturday night's loss to Florida may have been different if the game was at Neyland Stadium, however Tennessee was pushed around at the point of attack and simply didn't match the Gators' level of physicality. That's a problem for a team many had pegged as a preseason top 10 who would not miss a beat after winning 11 games last fall.

WASHINGTON HUSKIES (UNDERRATED)
AP Poll ranking: No. 8

The Huskies haven't played a game within 30 points of the opposition this season and quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has been flawless with 1,332 yards passing and 12 touchdowns thus far. After helping Washington to 11 wins last fall, Penix has a QBR of 94.2 and he's completing throws at a sizzling 74.2% clip. Washington's defense has a couple future early-round picks on it, too. The Huskies play four nationally-ranked Pac-12 opponents in November, but the only test left prior to the season's final month is 10th-ranked Oregon on Oct. 14. If you're looking at a futures bet in the conference that isn't USC, the Huskies look the part.

And there it is.

  • Fourth time Penix has won this award after taking it home 3 times last season. It's the second-most ever by a Husky behind former RB Napoleon Kaufmann who was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week 6 times between 1992-94.
