You know me too well. I’ve been….in my head. For hours and hours. And drinking. And cut myself for good measure.

So, I've waivered on how much belief I put into this. I first heard about it in high school (Pope John Paul II was still a healthy, active pope), and I went to a Catholic school, and was ...alarmed to discover at that time there were only 2 popes left until the end of times/the rapture. And I remember my teacher saying the second to last Pope would be a Benedictarian, and he'd be assassinated. Well, when JP2 passed and Benedict was elected, you better believe I took notice.

But then, he "retired", and Francis was made Pope, I was like, "wait, but....huh." Now, I have....thoughts on Francis. And it appears there was an internal civil war in the Vatican, and it appears to me Benedict was forced out, but he tried placing Cardinals in place to protect things. So, part of me wonders if the "assassination" of the second to last Pope may have been a misinterpretation or misunderstanding of a coup that replaced him.

If that's the case....buckle up cuz, uh....the end credits may be about to roll.

I never put much belief in let's just call them a "Host of Biblically Adjacent Prophesies". Things like that, a lot of Templar stories and Holy Grail tales are as made up as Batman scripts. It's not that I don't believe in prophesy, but I have little faith in most self-proclaimed profits.

I take no stock in prophesies of end times. No one knows when it will happen.
I am a little weird, okay I haven't been a little anything in decades, but IMHO our interpretations of them and ancient manuscripts in general are suspect at best. It's not that I think there is necessarily nefarious intent, but I am sure at least some political and recency bias has crept into interpretations and especially major doctoral shifts. That's just human nature and occurs in every social construct, not just religion.

Saint Malachy's prophesy early on, just simply listed all the names of every Pope very accurately. Pope Francis was the last one on the list. Over time, what happened next got extrapolated to "End Times, Judgement Day, all of the stuff that Preists and Pastors want us to fear. What actually happens may just simply be the end of the Catholic Church.

I have heard of it, though long ago. Thank you for the reminder. It could be that the prophesy is right and we are seeing the last true pope and the end of the catholic church. It will go on in name, but the true spirit is gone from the Vatican. Power and money have been the detriment of them for centuries, maybe it's finally won. Not necessarily for the common parishioners, but they hold no power in church affairs.

Very possible. As I said, there was clearly an internal civil war within the Church.

But as the catholic Church goes, as does Christendom. Heed this warning.

Unfortunately that is true for some of the "churches" today, including mine. Though I do posit that the newer brand of undenominational churches are drawing a large number of the younger generations. My daughters are leaning that way, according to them those churches are exciting and "teach" them more about devotion and gods word than the traditional. My 22 year old sings in a band at one of them. She dosen't like the Missouri synod lutheran that she grew up in. She wants to hear something other than just Jesus died for your sins every single Sunday.

I am pleasantly surprised that Gen Z seems to be turning to truth.

Belief in a higher power is inherent to the human mind's stability. Without it, we revert to being the savages we were before "religious enlightenment". The Vatican learned how to manipuatively benefit financially from that human condition hundreds of years ago.

I am a very religious person, but my beliefs won't allow me to agree with the established religions.

Agree whole heartedly. My church lists my great grandparents as some of the founing members. I feel that I am obligated to keep it functional, but it is dying, a string of bad pastors dosen't help in a small community. I am in commune with God also, though I have my differences from the church. I am different from my wife and kids, I need the liturgical thesis of the lutheran hymnal to feel like I'm actually communing with the lord. My wife and daughter's would rather just hear a sermon and spend an hour singing. I pray alone and though it's n ot what is taught in the gospels it is the only way that I feel I have a connection to God.

I'll spend hours finding the proper verse, but I can assure you that the Bible specifically says that you need to find you own connection to God. It's there. I needed it really bad when I found it the first time.

Liked because you used word "posit."

BTW guys, I don't believe there was a shooter behind the picket fence in Dallas. Spotters were probably there. I do believe there was shooter on the other grassy knoll, to the left of the overpass from JFK's view. IMHO that is where the bullet to JFK's neck came from and it went through the windshield.
