I am open minded to cryptozoology. It's hubris to think there aren't undiscovered species and a few monsters on the edges of the map. 30 years ago the giant squid was dismissed, but sailors knew better. This report, by that officer always was among the most credible imo. He was a man of integrity, sound minded, gave an accurate description, shot a photo and tried to get closer for accurate observation and scale. He didn't financially gain nor sensationalize. He reported.
