5 Star Recruits - Where do they go?

Back before scholarship limits, Bama was on top of the CFB world. Hell, Bear Bryant was probably responsible for the initiation of the first scholarship limits. Don't seem like that helped at all. Just saying.

Except it did. There's been a lot more parity in college football since scholarship limits were put into place. The numbers prove that to be true.

There may not be enough parity for some but it's clearly had it's intended impact. The scholarship limit factor actually proves why Saban is the GOAT. It's really incredible he's doing what he's doing despite the rules being in place to prevent something like this from happening.

Reducing scholarship opportunities is a great way to help disadvantaged kids.

Except it probably wouldn't decrease scholarship opportunities. There have been more and more teams moving into D1 since the scholarship limits were put into place.

Of course it will, if you reduce the scholarships by 5 you’d lose 600+, you’re not getting that back anytime soon, if ever. The highly ranked kids will still be going to the same places, and the total number of college football scholarships, FBS and FCS will be less.

Look up how many D1 teams there were 30 years ago and look up how many there are today.

In 1991, there were 107, now there's 130. That's a 17% increase.

The US population in the 1990 census was 248.7 million. In 2020, it was 331.5 million. That's a 24.9 increase.

I'm not exactly sure why this matters to your analysis, but I think it matters a lot.

Bear was like a cult leader. I don't mean that in a bad way, but he just had that ability to get people to follow him. Saban has that. Great leaders find a great following.
And the same goes for all of the great coaches of any era. That is the thing that the blue bloods have in common, a great coach that elevated himself and his program to a legendary status.

I'll go to my grave wishing that Dooley had accepted the Auburn offer in '81. I can only imagine what Erk could have done as the HC at UGA. Dooley is a legend in UGA lore, but Erk will always be the legend that made Dooley famous.

I would have happily swapped Pat for Vince and let the alums go home.
