If you are a Star Wars fan look up the Heir to the Empire series. It is an absolutely amazing trilogy written in the early 90s. And was really the kick off to fan fiction and what is now the "Legends" of the current star wars timeline. Basically every idea from the animated series and most of the rest of everything not in the original 3 sprang from this series.

Not kidding. This was the trilogy that should have been made post Jedi instead of the train wreck that was just recently completed. It very honestly rivals the original 3 movies while growing overall story.

If you are more of a fantasy fan. Look up Dragonlance Chronicles by Weis and Hickman. Another absolutely amazing series. That opens up a huge world of reading across tons of authors.

Finished Empire of the Summer Moon. Highly recommend, although it took me longer than usual to finish.

Jumped right into re-reading Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. Always been a Steinbeck fan and have recently been going back and re-reading some of my favorites.
I have 2-3 chapters left of Empire. This book has been a slow read for me also. I have done way more highlighting and note taking than I ever have before. I have to stop every few paragraphs and do some additional name lookups, location, battles, date research. I will definitely be reading it again, and hopefully next time it will be straight through

Did not know that, but not surprised. One of my favorite books I've ever read.....and I've read thousands of books. Man, Clancy must have had a DEEP insider back in the day. As an Intel Analyst, I was shocked at the classified level accuracy he produced.
The first time I read any Clancy was The Hunt for Red October and I was amazed as well. I was on my first deterrence patrol. Had I been in a bar at that time and mentioned the name of the BQR-13(sonar ... it may have been 15, that was over 30 years ago) or many other things in his book, I would have been put on the red carpet and at least lost my security clearance if not been put in Leavenworth. For a long time after I got out, when asked about submarines I would reference him or Jane's Fighting Ships.

Is there any interest here in sharing/talking about books you'd recommend? I'll start with some input (fiction) and see where this goes....

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Cornbread Mafia
Most any Clancy novel
Flight of the Intruder
Ender's Game (was...maybe still is....on the Commandant's reading list for Marines)

That's just a few....
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig

Right now I’ve been reading these two. A lot of interesting books in the thread I’m going to have to read. We both read a ton here 524FDF13-0695-43C4-A172-C99EF734C61B.jpeg79EB681C-8618-4FC4-A615-FD01B42007F9.jpeg

Hazard of smoking, I forget what I just read and have to reread an entire chapter after going into word salad vapor lock 😂
Haha I do that too. I’m not sure if it’s from smoking tho the book has to keep my interest.

I did have a teacher once tell us we can write a book report on any book. Back when I was in high school. That had to have been around the 1700’s haha. I managed to get a hundred word book report out of a book of matches, he did say any book. The look of confusion on his face was priceless tho 🤣🤣🤣

Just got done with 'Bowling Alone'

It is an amazing book discussing the loss of community and organizations in America. It of course caught my eye as it speaks heavily on fraternal organizations like Freemasonry. But also it really brings up how far we are as communities today vs what they looked like in the 60s and 70s.

Highly recommend.
