Taking two weeks PTO in August. Work has been super stressful, plus we’re dealing with an aging parent. We are heading out west on the road. Not necessarily dropping off the grid, but certainly making ourselves hard to reach. We’ve done southwest a few times, building some stops and sights around road trips to Sedona. This time we are going northwest so I can tick some remaining states off my visited list, namely Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Utah. I’m not looking to spend more than a couple days in any one place. My wife likes cities so will be stopping by Denver and Salt Lake City.

Where you all come in is, what else do I need to see? I think Boise is about the farthest from home (KC) I’m looking to get. Vegas is too far south plus I’ve seen it and the missus has no desire to see it.

Stop by and see @Nod4Eight in Idaho. Mount hood in Oregon is neat to go up on.

Second this. Make sure you get with @Nod4Eight. He's not far from the Snake river. Also, see Boise State's stadium. SLC has changed so much since I was there, I got nothing except to take a ride up Little Cotton Canyon where Alta and Snowbird are. There is also an Olympic Torch at Utah's stadium, if you're interested. One of two in the US. Also, Find one of the old growth forests in the Pacific northwest to marvel at the size of the trees...

That would be the Olympic Rain Forest. I use to fish for steelhead there back in the day.

if i were headed back to MT,
i'd prob stop at Yellowstone and/or Glacier,
and also throw some dry flies for cutthroat
while floatin the Flathead -
 
Magruder Cooridor. A 101 mile, one lane dirt road open for only a few months a year. The only road that separates three designated Wilderness Areas the size of damn near New England. No gas stations, no homes, no power lines, no sewer, no cops. The most remote place in the US without visiting @AlaskaGuy. Bring a lightweight fly rod for brookies in the crick and cutthroat in the high lakes.

And then stop by and havea beer at The Reverse RP.
