Don’t be salt.
Don’t be salt.
Did you ever hear of the "Airplane Conference"? Of course, it never materialized, but it was a super conference idea posed in the late 50's by... a Notre Dame President (John Cavanaugh). I guess since their idea was spurned back then, they have no reason to conform to modern conferences. For those of you keeping count. Dan Mullen just blamed the PAC imploding because ND doesn't conference up.
Now I get there is a lot of hate about ND staying Indy. And even more right now with all of the changes.
But can't ND use the exact same argument in reverse to explain why they stay Indy. I mean look at the 90s how many Indy teams joined conferences. Like the Big East. And then it imploded.
I mean if there has been one consistent in conferences it is that ND isn't a member of one (Covid year aside). What happened to all of the other teams that were Indy. Where did they go?
Really nice read. I had never heard nor read anything about the Airplane Conference and quite frankly the evolution of the PAC. Great find!Did you ever hear of the "Airplane Conference"? Because it’s Notre Dame’s fault.I actually had heard of this. ND fans aren't ignorant to conferences, and conference concerns. But, in the times that ND back when went conference talking they were often spurned the 1950s AD Moose Krause is a legend at ND. And became most and more popular as ND watched their success dwindle in the that decade before hiring Ara. Usually we call it the national conference or continental conference. I just hadn't heard the term airplane conference. But that is a cool name for it.
I will say. The reasons for ND to join then vs now are vastly different. Everyone looks at money as the prime motivator to join, ND does just fine financially. And if money was their prime motivator they would have conferenced up years ago.
For most ND fans it is scheduling freedom they treasure more than anything. Even though most of them don't realize just how much harder that is going to continue to get. I just think it was funny that Dan Mullen, someone that worked at ND at one point and is best known for his coaching in the SEC is blaming ND for the PAC failing.
Nebraska AD needs to prepare himself with more Charmin.
Yeah, they’re closer to being cut out than bragging about being on the boat.Nebraska AD needs to prepare himself with more Charmin.

Should the Mountaineers Try Again for ACC Membership?Good day all. Curious to your thoughts on the conference realignment rumors. I have been entertained watching the tin foil hats on Twitter/YouTube - but now I am seeing actual reporters covering this (Pete Thamel, Brett McMurphy, Stewart Mandel, Max Olson, John Ourand, Andrew Marchand, Brady McCullough, Dennis Dodd). Is the PAC really in trouble???
Worse than a lateral move. ACC is stuck with their deal until 2036, and it's way less than the SEC and B1G and worse than the B12 who renew much sooner...Should the Mountaineers Try Again for ACC Membership?
Ugh... I'd hate for someone to wake up from a 10 year coma and try to figure out the current CFB mess.Worse than a lateral move. ACC is stuck with their deal until 2036, and it's way less than the SEC and B1G and worse than the B12 who renew much sooner...
NO ONE will leave the B1G, The $ is too good...![]()
Maryland returning to ACC would solve many college sports realignment problems
If Maryland returned to the ACC, either Florida State or Stanford could join the #B1G. We’d get Duke-Maryland basketball back!trojanswire.usatoday.com
