Serious Conversation: COVID-19 and College Football

China seeing 'second wave' of virus, new and improved virus at that.
Yeah, I'm that guy. We aren't having sports this year. FACK!!!!
yeah, it's weird, it's as though the first weaponized virus they released was (relatively quickly) negated (despite media downplaying hydroxychloroquine), so they had to release a more dangerous one. People, we are AT WAR with China...and need to start fighting back.

So once again, we're disregarding the main point of this thread which is the effect on college football.

It means China has guaranteed no college football this year.

This is the United States. We don't have room to gripe about other countries when it comes to bad things.

So stick to the college football angle and just that.

Just that.

Uh...no?

The thread is about Covid-19 and college football. Given it was released and lied about by the CCP, discussing China falls under the purview of the thread. And, American guilt (which I don't suffer from) aside, if reports ARE true that there's a second wave/virus/mutation whatever coming from China now, it guarantees no season this year. That is "sticking to the college football angle".

@Kace-1 There seems to be a consensus that believes there will be a massive resurgence of the virus in the fall.
This, in my mind, is telling me there won't be any fall/late fall and possibly winter sports. Why bring China up? As
of now, they are seeing a massive resurgence, or possibly just getting to the real numbers and it was never contained.
I don't know, I just want hockey, football, CBB and weed. Sadly, I have only weed.

I don’t get it. Not saying youre defending China but given there are reports of new/different strains coming out of there, it stands to reason there’ll be a continued caution/panic, and any chances we had of salvaging the season (which was looking possible) are gone. How is that not appropriate here?

That's why I think July 1 is so important. Whatever's happening in China or Italy or especially here is gonna matter lots when that date arrives.

A pandemic can start anywhere. Think of how silly we would feel with a virus or whatever else being spread from the United States and people in other countries calling it the "American Virus." Or just other countries deciding that since it started here, it's obviously that we're just trying to start a war or some other nonsense.

While it feels good to blame other people who happen to not be you or blaming the Chinese Government for offering a big bag of fail when it started or Italy for not taking the threat seriously in time or ourselves for not taking it seriously in time or blaming Trump or Pelosi so our political biases can feel better and/or masturbate a few seconds longer, it does nothing for the more immediate concern, which is what's gonna happen with College Football and more broadly, what's gonna happen with sports?

I'm all for you wanting to blame whomever and being mad if that's your thing, but I'm sure there's a thread in one of the other rooms for that. Here, let's just keep shit centralized to the sports angle, not the "Who I'm mad at" shit.

Even though I think 01JUL is a key date, I don't think it is the drop dead date. If some treatments are approved and shown to work by the end of JUL, we may be okay.

I wish, but if they’re only working by end of July, no President of any university would allow students to return to campus. If that’s the case... no football.

I hate to be 'that guy', but I just don't see it. And if it does happen and the '2nd wave' hits, with
everyone packed in stadiums so tightly... it would be catastrophic. I hate this, man!

I don't exactly mean working ... I am more talking about them passing clinical trials and known to be working. Especially if the plasma therapy.
