The new and improved Good Morning thread!

Looks like I might be "retiring" a bit early. Company wants to get rid of some of us older folks so they sent those of us over 55 with at least 10 years service and early separation offer.
I'm so glad I retired at 55 last year.. things are so much better,, the loss of stress and anxiety alone makes it worth it.. :)
just a couple of things to think about,
1. Figure out how much money you need each month, there are budget worksheets for retiring online that can help with that.. make sure to allow yourself some extra for doing whatever retirement things you plan to pursue,, traveling, fishing, whatever..
2. determine when you want to start taking Social Security, 62? or 65?
3. Make 2 plans, one to get you from now till you start social security, and another to get you from social security till you die..
4. consider Health insurance, its a huge cost, medicare doesnt start until age 65.
if you wanna talk more about specifics, im no expert but will share what I did in detail if you wish,, pm me for cell number :)

For anyone who hasn't fully paid their own health insurance, the bolded above is very important. I know quite a few people who have retired early, only to go get another job to pay those costs. They didn't realize how expensive it is. And let me tell you when your premium doubles and triples itself in the matter of a few years you can't budget for that.

I'm mostly excited and relieved. So many recent changes and so many more to come that had me feeling anxious. Definitely will miss the paycheck but we're in pretty good shape.
They did offer almost 6 months pay and 18 months of subsidized healthcare at less than $100 per month for pretty decent insurance.
Need to keep the wife working to get her out of the house and bring in a little money.
I imagine that I'll find a part time job but probably not until spring to get myself out of the house and make a little money.
I'm sick of the hours. I work at home but there's a lot of pulling all nighters (not the fun kind), evening and a lot of weekend work.

Hey Ish, are you staying away from the fires ?? I think of you each time I see it on the news,, that must be pretty damn rough..
Thus far I am good in regards to fire danger. Thanks for asking. Although the air here in So. Cal has sucked now for several weeks because of the ash in the air. Combine that with this heat that just won’t go away, and everyone is on edge.

Actually the first time in my 57 years of living in Cali I have mentioned to the Mrs. about moving out. Just tired of all things going on right now. Won’t happen though, grandkid here and parents we are taking care of need us to stick around.

So, morning coffee with this crew and an occasional bourbon at night is keeping me sane.

I understand that all too well, I'd move to the coast (Bama coast) in a heart beat if I thought my son could manage without me..
