This is what natives have to deal with

I have saw this subject come up before and I have a question. So where do you feel yanks are from? The northeast?
I'm originally from South Alabama. Pretty close to Gulf Shores. My experience is mainly with Mich and NY types with a haughty snotty attitude who look down on the hicks necks and Natives. Plus they drive like shit. That thru the mid 90's. When I was in and out of the area.
Then it was the leftie attitudes from then on getting away from leftie politics but brought their bs with them.
Florida throughout the 90's and 2000's. Good grief. Mainly northeast/new england, call it what you want, a mess. Massachusetts is not an impressive bunch especially.
yankee pollution

Some in this thread can’t even see what they’re doing.
Start a thread bitching about someone posting a hateful post about a group and instead of placing the blame solely on him they post their hate about another group.
Seems reasonable.

Calling a guy a Yankee isn't placing him within a group of people from some area, it is placing him in a mindset

I understand, thanks for the answer. I was just curious. As you probably know I'm from southeastern Iowa, along the miss. and I've always wondered what the perception of my state was?

When we call somebody a yankee, we aren't deriding where they are from, we are deriding how they act. Yankee has always been used towards somebody who is hateful, high faluten acting and holds their noses up at the locals.

Oh ok. And what is this mindset?

That may be true for you but not for most. Most are referring to anyone born above the Mason Dixon.
Even if what you’re saying is true doesn’t make it right.

If license plates from Ohio trigger immediate hatred then you might be a redneck. If license plates from California trigger immediate hatred then you might be a redneck. If you hate everybody then you just might be my biological brother. Duly noted. Good to know this isn’t from dear friends I’ve met from here many times.

The way I use the term Yankee is that it is the anthesis of redneck, just like city slicker versus country boy. It has nothing to do with geography, race religion, sex, orientation or politics. The biggest difference is that with one you get "hold my beer" and with the other it is "hold my wine cooler". There is just not that much interesting happening to video the "hold my wine cooler" moment.

So you have called a Southerner a Yankee? If so I'll bet that went over well.

I have on numerous occasions. They didn't like it but I bet it was a good time for self reflection on their part.

Jenny from Forest Gump acted like a Yankee at the Vietnam Protest Rally hence why Forest remarked "you can come home with me...TO GREENBOW ALA BAMA" which effectively demonstrated that anyone can be a Yankee, even a southerner.
