Just got done with 'Bowling Alone'

It is an amazing book discussing the loss of community and organizations in America. It of course caught my eye as it speaks heavily on fraternal organizations like Freemasonry. But also it really brings up how far we are as communities today vs what they looked like in the 60s and 70s.

Highly recommend.
There’s a book with similar themes recommended to me, but I haven’t read it. I believe it’s called Third Places (not home, not work).

There aren’t many third places left, especially for men. I had an uncle who was in the Knights of Columbus, the Freemason, the Moose lodge. Probably more too.

There are so many logical reasons these groups have shrunk since the 60s and 70s. But the most unfortunate part is how much good they could reintroduce to people today. Both young and old.

Whenever I have a candidate or a prospect talk to me about joining they almost ALWAYS have the same version of saying "it isn't the same bond when it isn't in person"

That is just so true. I would encourage any of you men here to look into them if you arent yet. They are amazing way to fill a piece of your soul you might not even realize is missing.
