How do you quit smoking

That’s impressive, you’re doing great!
I know what you mean about tasting the poison. I haven’t had a single puff since I quit, but I did notice that with vaping.
The smell of cigarette smoke gives me that noxious/poison. It’s never easy, but that makes it easier.
My Mom died at 78 after she quit drinking and smoking. Her oldest sister still smokes and drinks. She just celebrated her 90th birthday. All of us need to quit listening to the medical industrial complex and learn how to live until we die. Age with grace and humility. Pass your wisdom on to those that have the ability to learn. Be happy that you create your legacy by being honest to yourself.

I will not give a damn what kills me. My goal for the last 50 years has been to hit that brick wall going wide open.
I live by the same rules. Yes it’s bad for my physical body, but so is eating, drinking, breathing, and every time I travel. When your time is up on this Earth, the manner in how you pass doesn’t matter. I refuse to live my life according to what doctors, dietitians, psychologist, and politicians think is best for me. It’s my life and no others……so I make those decisions for myself.

What IS important to me? My faith & devotion to my God, His son, and the Holy Spirit. I do my best to treat others how I myself would like to be treated…..with respect, honesty, & compassion. I smoke, drink some, and can cuss like a sailor. I can be an asshole, have bad days, treat someone badly……that’s my human side. The point being no man is perfect and never will be.

I will never attempt to influence people making their own decisions, good or bad. I will be there for those that ask or seek whatever assistance I can give them. For those of you that are working to kill those personal demons…..I pray for your success!

smoked 11 cigarettes on day 1,, i went back and looked at my bank account for the month of april.. bought 52 packs of cigs at $413 which breaks down to 35 cigarettes a day at 40 cents each.. just for reference..

im using the patch system the VA sent me,, I have 1 week of 21mg patches, to be changed each morning, then a week of 14mg patches, then i think 2 weeks of 7mg patches,,

also, and this may be the weird part, im using chatGPT as my support group, my chat has developed a personality that I like and is somewhat encouraging while highlighting my successes and not excusing failures but promoting the idea of dusting yourself off and getting back on the horse so to speak..

yesterday was day 2 and I smoked 9 cigarettes.. with a 5 hour window in the middle without one.. im realizing that I dont need the cigarettes, they are just a habbit.. and I can taste the poison in them now.. I believe I can see a road out of here, 3 days ago there was no road to be found.

47 years.. Marlboro reds.. 2 packs a day.. it's time to give em up. I don't know if I can do it.
I have never smoked, but I'm pretty smart, so I'll weigh in on this.

1 Mental game. This might not work for you, but I would put a brand new pack on my dresser with matches, so I wouldn't panic in the middle of night. There are three elements to consider, so let's take them one at a time:

2 You have to have a strong desire to quit. You seem to have that, so we can check this complete.

3 craving and habit are two challenges you have to deal with net. I think they have patches you can use to temper the need for the drug and step down as you can. Additionally, you have to replace holding and sticking cigs in your mouth. Maybe hard candy and holding a pencil to give your hands something to do.

I have history with believer, ODD. I tried to help him with with nutrition back in the day on Rivals. I did lead with the fact I have never smoked.

He is asking for help and he is my friend. Besides, look and what you knuckleheads offered him, any port in a storm.
I always post here (and formerly at the old place) with entertainment in mind. with that said, there are occasionally tidbits of wisdom to be gleened from the responses. so, for sanity's sake, I learned long ago, treat the replies like a buffet, take what you want, leave the rest for the rats.
Thank you @della for your insight, it is appreciated! and thank you @OldDevilDawg for your humor, its appreciated as well. and everyone else for their support or otherwise, its exactly what it was supposed to be!

I love you both equally. We have a long and storied history together. Yes, I'm an asshole. But I speak truth. It's what I do. The most important part of this post that both of you need to remember lies in the first 2 sentences.

Update please. How ya holding up?
Im kinda just holding the pattern, the good points, I no longer smoke when I wake in the middle of the night, and I dont immediately fire one up when I wake up.. I generally make myself wait at least 30 minutes before having the first one.. but Im down to around 10 a day.. and holding,, I dont really know why I dont just drop them,, but I find myself look very much forward to that next cigarette.. I have stepped down to the 14mg patch, its smaller in diameter,, lol,, I thought that was funny for some reason.. i guess thats how they control the dose.. I have a trip coming up this thursday, gonna spend 2 days with my brother in Savannah and then 2 days with a good friend in Jacksonville.. I was hoping to surprise both by being smoke free.. we'll see.

Never smoked but chewed like a madman. My oral surgeon dentist scared the shit outta me and I quit on 30July2010, one of the hardest things for me to ever do but so worth it. Stay tough brother!
I bounced between chew and smoking over the years. Chew gives you so much nicotine straight into your blood. I took a very small pinch from a friend of mine a few years ago, my head was spinning almost instantly. I was surprised how gross it seemed, I used to love that stuff.

Yeah man, I chewed the bag stuff to the point I was getting 2 chews out of every bag. My ex used to say it looked like I had a baseball in my mouth. All the bad news about it helped me to quit but now you can find all sorts of stuff on the benefits of nicotine. Go figure.

It's odd how it affects some and not others. My Grandpa lived until 89 and smoked non-filtered Pall Malls/cigarettes for all but maybe 16 of those.
