Pappy 25 just means it’s a bottle of Pappy 23 that is sitting on some liquor store’s “museum shelf” gathering dust for a couple of years with a 1000% markup from MSRP.
 
Ive heard that some bars will sell shots of pappy for $80 to $100, I'd be carefull though, I had a buddy that bar backed one summer at the beach and he said they routinely refilled the Cuervo bottles with Pepe!

Julian Van Winkle, the president of Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, said in a press release that his company "cannot control the price retailers charge, so some retailers mark it up beyond our MSRP, even though we ask them not to."
That means they set the "S" in MSRP, but it's ultimately truly the manufacturer's suggested retail price. However, Van Winkle continued, his distillery is “committed to releasing a quality product and hope retailers will honor what we suggest as a fair retail price.”
Van Winkle whiskeys win a lot of awards. Just a couple of examples: At the 2018 New York International Spirits Competition the 20-year-old took double gold as the best bourbon and best small batch bourbon. Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible for 2019 awarded the 15-year-old Best Bourbon in the 11-15 Years Old category.
The 2019 Van Winkle Whiskey collection will be available in limited supply beginning in November.

If somebody came across one of these bottles- would one be able to resell it? If so, how would one sell one of these, where would be a good place to sell it, and what is a good fair market rate for such a bottle?

Never had it. Probably had the chance, but never pursued it. Id rather have a quart jar of moonshine from PopCorn Sutton if they are still around. Now that is something right there that cannot be reproduced in a factory.

absolutely! there is a huge after market for liquor.. both collectors and connoisseurs would be extremely interested in legit Pappy, especially the 23 year old.. Ive heard those sell for as much as $3000 a bottle.. i would think a simple online search would put you on the right path..
