Picture Thread October Edition

Small world indeed. I am from Parrish and I22 missed Dad's by about a half mile. My uncle had to move his house and sell part of his property. We used to got to Hueytown for a seafood restaurant(cant remember the name) and always drove by this address … #1 Victory Lane. Dad was a huge fan.
Bryant's?????

Bryant's?????

It very well could be. It was all you could eat(you picked either two or three items), small Mom and Pop type place. IIRC, they either moved or opened a second location that did not go over well but I had moved out of state by then. The food was good enough that we would pack everyone possible into cars and drive about 45 minutes on state/county 2 lane roads/pothole collections to spend scarce money.

. If I remember correctly it had a gravel parking lot and 15-20 tables maybe...

I grew up in McCalla and 20 years later find myself back there.... Home is well..... Home..

There is nothing wrong with that. I would have moved back home years ago were it not for caregiving for my in-laws. It would have been a mistake for me because my town is dead, even the high school closed. After Dad passed, I would have felt stuck in a miserable place.

Since the mines shut down there is nothing left at home. Drugs and crime has taken over. My aunt told me that she won't leave her house unless she has a sitter. People will come in and steal the copper wire out of the wall. My cousins are amongst the worst.

This has been 5 years ago or more, had a little sub work in the Jasper area. And the neighborhood we working in , the entire neighborhood had ac units on stilts and in a cage....

I still would not trade growing up there for any other place. Back in the 80s our mayor/city council prevented a mobile home plant(Cavalier IIRC) from being built on the outskirts of town. It went to Winston County. Five or six other plants went there as well so we lost all of that revenue plus the jobs. We kind of figured back then that sooner or later it would be the death of the town. My baby brother moved down to the river near the Jefferson County line off of 269. Me and my twin were the fifth and sixth children born and my son is older than my brother.

Took kids to Carter’s Mountain on Saturday. Could see UVA’s stadium in the distance. They were playing Duke at the time.
